偉そうにGossip Blogごときが伝説のVentire Capitalistに引退勧告かよ!という気もするが､記事自体はJohn Doerrの投資履歴がごく簡単にではあるが簡潔にまとめられていて､なかなか良い。凝った言い回しなどなく読みやすい文章なので全文をお読みいただくことをお勧めする。特にGoogleに投資した経緯は興味深い(これが本当かどうか走らないけど)。

本人が言っている訳ではないので真相は分からぬが､これが本当だとすれば､PSRなどが喧伝されていた当時の､顧客ありきのWeb1.0時代的志向そのままであり、且つWeb2.0の今ともちっとも変わらないことが分かる。ユーザーを得ても収益源を作れなかった企業はどんどん潰れてしまったわけで、Overtureの真似をして広告収入を上げられなかったら､どうなっていたんだろうという気が激しくする。
MicrosoftやYahooには投資しなかったもののCompaq､Sun Microsystems､Netscape､Amazon.comなどで快進撃を続けてきた彼だが、最近の注目企業にはいずれも手を出していない。
